A Kick in the Butt

On my "Resolution Update", I wrote about how I was waiting for test results to help explain my constant fatigue. I went to the doctor last week for my results and fortunately (and unfortunately) there wasn't anything serious going on to explain it. I do have some vitamin deficiencies that could cause some of my problems and we are working to correct that.

Another thing that I have discussed with my doctor is that I never feel good. Everyday I have stomach trouble of some kind and/ or a headache. Too much sleep could be the cause of my headaches, so I have to really work hard to get 8 hours of sleep and no more. (Like not 12 hours a day. Seriously, I'm messed up!)

So on to correcting my tummy issues... the vitamin deficiencies could contribute to it, but probably isn't the main culprit, so the doc suggested an elimination diet and a cleanse. The cleanse is in pill form, so its no problem, but the diet is hell. An elimination diet is a diet of lean protein, fruits, & veggies only. No nuts or seeds, no dairy, no gluten, no red meat, & no sugar! The point is to follow the diet for 2 weeks and clean your body out. Then slowly add back the things you have eliminated to see how your body reacts to them. If you start having problems again after you add back dairy, for example, then you probably have a sensitivity to dairy that could make you feel bad. (NOTE: my blood work did not suggest that I have a full blown allergy to any of this, hence the diet.)

Sounds like a good plan if I want to feel better, right? Wrong. I have no will power. I want to have will power, I really, really do, but I don't. I have restarted the diet twice now. I cannot make it through a day. NOT ONE STINKING DAY. Now, I love fruits & veggies. That is not the problem. The no gluten & sugar is what gets me. I really like bread. And sweet tea. And candy. And all sorts of other stuff with sugar & gluten in it. Do you know what all has gluten in it? Here's a little list in case you don't!

The deal is I really want to feel better. Remember my whole resolution about being better? I think that if I "feel good", I WILL do better. (Does that make sense?) So how does a person get will power? Seriously, I want to know. I need someone to give me a kick in the butt. (Not Clinton. When he tells me to eat better, it just pisses me off. Sorry Babe!) Please, someone help me. What do I do?

  1. That diet sounds really hard. I can't even think of what I would eat if I had to do that. Fruit/vegetables would not keep me full all day, I'd have to be eating them constantly. Good luck with that!

  2. Hey what about smoothies? Can you put tofu in it for protein? Frozen fruit/veggies, some tofu...but you'd have to skip the sweeteners, even splenda. Over-ripe bananas? I've really been trying to figure out what you can eat! I thought salad, but no dressing?!
