BBQ Road Trip Phase 2

We woke up early to head home from San Antonio. Instead of heading straight home on I-35, we detoured through Lockhart, Texas to try out the BBQ Capital of Texas. We settled on Smitty's, and pulled in.

The view of the blackened smoke stack was beautiful to someone wanting good BBQ!

Inside the door was an even better sight!

And no, its not blurry. That's smoke!

We ordered our food right there next to the smoker. But all you can buy was meat. They give you bread (or crackers) and pieces of paper to serve as your plates! It is also sold by the pound, so you can order by the slice if you want. We ordered 2 sausages, 2 slices of brisket, and 1/2 rack of ribs.

If you want extras, you have to buy them in the dining room. Here is our complete lunch.

Our utensils...

Our ratings: DELICIOUS! The brisket was both of our picks for best of the trip. I liked the ribs just fine, but Clinton thought they were better than the Salt Lick. Neither of us chose the sausage as best though, it is homemade, and too fatty for us. All-in-all, we loved it here! Although, we plan to return to try the other BBQ places in Lockhart, we may not be able to pass up the chance to eat here again. Smitty's may have become our all time favorite BBQ place.
