31 Days of Overcoming Myself- Day 3

One of my biggest problems is time management. Trying to be supermom is hard, especially when you work from home (and you are lazy). I've been using a daily schedule for a while now, to keep me on track. If I don't have a reminder of the things I need to get done, I'm likely to be sitting on the couch, watching tv for hours, or lost in iPhone land. I have been slacking on following my schedules, but I'm working on being back on track!

Speaking of the pressure to be supermom, my friend Tiffany, wrote a good post about that on her 2nd day of the challenge, 31 Days of Letting Go: Day 2!

Here are my daily schedules for this week so far. I, actually, followed it today! (Except that I didn't wake up at 7, oops! Not going to tell you what time I DID wake-up, but I'll just say that I didn't start working until 10:30...)

I usually ignore that "Cleaning Goal" part! Ha!
I got the printable schedules from Buttoned Up, they have lots of cute organization tools!

I struggle with trying to do it all, be it all, for everyone. I'm always falling short. Supermom syndrome. How DO they do it?? However, I usually feel better about myself if I follow my schedules and get SOME things done around here. Not that I get to feel like that often.

Having to schedule play time, is not a GREAT moment for a mom, but if I didn't put it on the schedule, it probably wouldn't happen at all. Emma told me the other day that I NEVER play with her. Talk about a knife to the heart. She, also, said that I never smile and I'm always mad. I wish I could just go with the flow and play when she asks and throw my schedules out the window. But I, also, know that, then, nothing would get done, including WORK.

So how to balance is the big question. Working from home is the best of both worlds, but I still can't master it. Anyone have any solutions on how to balance everything? How to be a supermom?

31 Days of Overcoming Myself: Day 2

This morning got off to a bad start. Like everyday of my life, I overslept.

I have this inability to wake up on time! I try. I set a ton of alarms on my phone, which go off literally every 15 minutes for at least an hour (usually two), not to mention the snooze that goes off in between. My days and nights are seriously mixed up. So that is definitely something to work on...still.

So anyway, I woke up with 30 minutes to get ready, fed, and get Emma to school. Never fear, I have THAT down!

Last night was not a good one for Em and me. She got her first black mark on her new behavior chart, because we had a two hour fight to get her to clean her room. I am exhausted right now from just thinking about it. And I was totally feeling guilty about it this morning (even though it was all the little heifer's fault!), so I decided that I would pick her up from school at noon. Normally, she goes to preschool from 8:20-12, then they walk her over to Mother's Day Out for the rest of the day. I thought we'd go to lunch or do something fun together, but she wanted to go home. She spent the afternoon doing puzzles and watching Disney Junior, and couldn't have been happier.

Meanwhile, I ruined supper. I'm not even going to get into it because it was TOTAL FAIL. I like to think of myself as a good cook, so it hurts a little. Deep down.

Usually, at this point of the day, I'm done. I'm just going through the motions to get to the end. So what happened next totally surprised me. Emma asked if we could make crafts together, and I said yes... with the kitchen still a disaster. I, almost, spit out my usual response of "not right now", but thought better of it. Blog challenge changing lives over here!

Thankfully, we have plenty of supplies in the craft closet! We decided to make a monster!

Here he is... Em said he ate the monkey :/
Then she asked to finger paint and I said go for it! Who cares about a little mess! It's washable!

She insisted that she have her chair to sit in... lazy like me :(

Right now, she's coloring and waiting for me to get finished so we can watch a movie and eat popcorn (which is what we were supposed to do last night before the clean room fiasco!). And I'm kind of feeling like super mom. I might not have fed her appropriately tonight (wait, did she eat anything?), but she enjoyed herself, and I did too!

31 Days of Overcoming Myself

Last night, my friend, Tiffany, started bullying asking me to join her in a 31 day blogging challenge. You have to pick one topic to write about everyday of October. I was hesitant because #1 I didn't know what I'd write about and #2 I'm not great about following through with things. So I thought about it, and that second reason (not following through) is one of the long list of things I'd like to change about myself. Not change myself really, I am who I am, just tweak here and there. So there it is, my topic for the challenge... Overcoming myself to become a better version of Kayla. I will write about my little issues and how I am working to fix them.

This comes at a great time, too, since my 29th birthday last week, I've already been putting more effort into "getting it together".  Getting it together is my pet phrase. I've written about this before, several times, in fact. It has its own category on this blog, Working On Me. Somehow, all my good plans never quite work out... see lack of follow through above.

Here's a good laugh for you...

I've had my new car for about three months now. During the first week of having the car, Clinton and I discovered that the passenger seat wouldn't move forwards or backwards. It took us two months to get it back up to the dealership to have it looked at. They told us they needed to order the parts yada yada yada. The parts came in, and we finally got it back up there this morning to get it fixed.

About 30 minutes later, the service department called...they took the seat apart and found the problem... stuck in the seat track. was. a. piece. of.... beef jerky. Kill me now.

In my defense, it was really good beef jerky. I'm kind of obsessed with it. And on a side note, it's nearly impossible to find! Frito Lay, here my plea...

I thought my hubby would help hide my shame by picking up the car for me, but no. When I went in, the lady said "Oh, the car with the beef jerky in the track." Guess, that's what I'm known for now.
I just said "Yes, I am ridiculous..."
She said, "Oh, don't worry, Honey. That wasn't even the strangest thing we've found in cars." I can only imagine.
